First Christian Church is a member of the denomination known as The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  It has a unique structure.  It operates in congregations, regions, and general units.  Each body is linked to the others by commitment alone.

Congregations
There are over 4200 congregations in the US and Canada.  More than 100 new congregations have been started since 1980.  Each congregation determines how it will engage in and support outreach.  Most send voters to Regional and General Assemblies to participate in the policy decisions of those bodies.

Regions
There are 36 regions in the US and Canada.  They develop new congregations, help situate pastors, certify the standing of ministers and aid pastors and congregations.

General Units
The general office is headed by the General Minister and President.  As the eleven general units carry out world work and aid congregations and regions, they are guided by an every-other-year General Assembly.  An elected moderator presides over the General Assembly, the 200-member General Board and its 40-member administrative committee.
